Dumpster truck's lift hits overpass, causes two-car accident

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries after a motor vehicle accident on Route 12 in Utica Tuesday afternoon.

Utica Police said that it was around 1:30 p.m. when a FEHER Rubbish Removal Dumpster Truck was driving north on Route 12 with its dumpster lift elevated as it moved underneath the Route 8 Bridge.

The vehicle's dumpster lift struck the bridge overpass and came to an abrupt stop.

As the Rubbish Removal Truck abruptly stopped, a second vehicle, which was following the FEHER truck, was unable to avoid colliding with it.

The operators of both vehicles were transported to local hospitals and suffered minor injuries, police said.

According to the NYS DOT, the North-South Arterial (State Route 5/8/12) northbound will remain closed, as well as the ramp from Southbound Route 8 to the Arterial until roughly 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area if at all possible, or to seek alternate routes around the closure.
