HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Police are investigating a suspicious incident that took place on McKennan Road in the Town of Herkimer. Officials say an 8 year old girl and her younger sister were approached by a man riding in a 2 door sedan.

Officials say the incident happened around 2pm on Sunday. The young girl reports the passenger in a 2 door silver vehicle got out of the car and walked into her yard. The girl says then the man snapped his fingers at her and yelled at her to "come here."

The 8 year old grabbed her younger sister, ran inside and notified her parents.

The male is described as being around 18 years old with shoulder length blonde hair with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at 315-866-7111.

NEWSChannel 2 spoke on the phone with the mother of the girls. She says her daughter did not recognize the man or the vehicle.

Neighbors on McKennan Road say they used to think things like this couldn't happen around here, but now, anything is possible.

One woman has lived on McKennan road for 25 years. She remembers the days where you could leave your doors unlocked and let the kids play in the yard. She says those days are gone.

Another neighbor says she heard the news and started calling family members who also live on the road just to make sure they were aware of the incident.
