Old Forge celebrates St. Patrick's Day

By ALLISON NORLIAN

OLD FORGE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A sea of green could be seen at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Old Forge on Friday. Hundreds lined Main Street in anticipation for this year's parade.

A DJ kept the crowd pumped up, as the floats lined up. Irish bagpipers kicked off the parade with Olympian Erin Hamlin and her parents close behind. The Hamlin's were the parades Grand Marshals this year.

"This is like an adoptive hometown so it's really fun. It has definitely been busy," Hamlin said. "But it's fun and I know it's not going to last forever so I might as well enjoy it while it's here and it's great to share in the excitement with everybody."

Various floats could be seen down Main Street, from the Irish Setters, a group of St. Patty's Day pups, to a local rendition of the 80's sitcom, Cheers.

Parade favorites ranged from the candy being tossed from the floats, to the synchronized snow plows.

Mike Lanphier, originally from Ireland, said it's nice to see how far the Irish have come, "It's big in Ireland, but I think it's more of a religious holiday over there then it is here. Here, everyone likes to get out and party, which is good, we have to have some down time."

The parade brought people from all over the country to Old Forge, and even around the the world.
