Orange outlast UNC Asheville at NCAA Tournament

By WKTV Sports

PITTSBURGH, PA (WKTV) - It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win. The top seeded Syracuse Orange beat the 16th seed UNC Asheville 72-65 on Thursday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

James Southerland led the way with 15 points and a career high eight rebounds in a game many considered too close for a 1 vs. 16 seed matchup.

Dion Waiters and Kris Joseph scored 12 points apiece and Scoop Jardine chipped in 11. However, Jardine and Joseph were a combined 6 for 18 from the field.  The Orange will now face Kansas State in the third round on Saturday. The NCAA has not announced times for the Saturday games as of Thursday evening.

J.P. Primm led the Bulldogs with 18 points.
