Owners of Bridgewater home struck by suspicious fire offering reward
BRIDGEWATER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The owners of a burned-out house on Route 8 in Bridgewater are using it as a billboard in an attempt to catch the person who torched their house.
It was Friday, August 9, that fire tore through the house. It took five fire departments three and a half hours to put out the fire, but not before the heat melted the siding on the neighboring house.
Now, the Ericksons, who own the building, are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identity and arrest of the person who set fire to their house. The couple placed a large sign in front of the home with information regarding the reward and the number to call the Oneida County Sheriff's Department with information: 315-765 2208.
The couple also wrote thank you messages to firefighters on the house and a nearby shed.
The Ericksons live on Long Island and were moving to Bridgewater to try and re-open local landmark the Gatesville Dairy when the fire occurred.
Investigators with the Oneida County Sheriff's Department say the fire is suspicious, because there was no heat or power to the house at the time of the fire. Samples have been sent to labs to determine if accelerants were used. Investigators are still awaiting those results.
