TORONTO (WKTV) - Canadian Police say two men have been arrested and charged with plotting a terrorist attack against a passenger train that would have traveled from Canada to New York City. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Monday that Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser were conspiring to carry out an al-Qaida supported attack against Via Rail, but posed no imminent threat. The investigation was part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Officials did say one specific route was targeted, but would not reveal which one. The only route on Amtrak's service listing that travels from Toronto to New York City is the Maple Leaf Line, which passes through Utica's Union Station, among other Central New York stations.
