Power restored to most of the Village of Mohawk

MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - Around 6:30 Tuesday morning the entire Village of Mohawk, around 1,300 residents, were without power.

Mike Shedd, Co-Supervisor of the Mohawk Municipal Commission, said a power line came down near the Waterfront Grill Restaurant in Herkimer. The line laid across the thruway and was to blame for the outage, said Shedd.

The power Mohawk residents, and some customers in the outlying areas, receive is provided by the Mohawk Municipal Commission, but it is fed by National Grid, Shedd added.

As part of repairs, The New York State Thruway Authority announced that a brief traffic stop will occur in both directions on I-90 near Interchange 30 (Herkimer) today.

All ramps at Interchange 30 will be closed until the repairs are completed.

The traffic stop will take place sometime between noon and 2 p.m. and could cause a minor delay of up to 10 minutes.

The Thruway Authority will utilize Variable Message Signs to inform motorists of the stoppage and any delays that may result from it. The Thruway Authority appreciates motorists' patience during this repair.
