Republican candidate for attorney general makes stop in Ilion

(WKTV) - The Republican attorney general candidate challenging incumbent AG Eric Schneiderman made a campaign stop in Herkimer County on Monday.

John Cahill spoke to employees at Remington Arms in Ilion. With 80 jobs already cut at Remington because of facets moving out of state, Cahill says the remaining 1,200 jobs are in jeopardy thanks to moves such as the Safe Act and microstamping legislation. He says Schneiderman supports both without regard for the impact on upstate economies.

"Having an attorney general who puts out a press release two hours before the passage of the legislation calling for its passage, either not knowing -- or not caring -- that the law was going to make law enforcement officials around the state in violation of that law because of the restrictions on magazines," Cahill said.

Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri has endorsed Schneiderman for re-election, saying the AG's efforts in the Mohawk Valley have gotten guns off the streets. So far in 2014, 201 guns have been secured in the city
