SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Syracuse football team held their annual media day at the Carrier Dome on Friday and the theme was certainly a one of looking forward.
Coming off their first winning season since 2001 and their first bowl apperance since 2004, coach Marrone and company are starting fresh and the big goal is to be competitive in the Big East Conference.
Right off the bat coach Marrone addressed some off the field issues. Receiver Marcus Sales is
suspended indefinitely after he was arrested for drug possession last week. Also suspended is second-year quarterback Jonny Miller. He was two arrested on Wednesday and charged with suspicion of assault and robbery.
Some good news from coach Marrone, sophomore running back Prince-Tyson Gulley, who was stabbed during a melee at a party July 29, was at media day activities and apparently won't face any disciplinary action. Gulley should be able to practice in about 7-10 days.
Hopes are high in Syracuse though this season as most of the offense returns. They will look for more big plays this season. There are some question marks on defense especailly at linebacker and interior defensive line.
SU opens their season on Thursday night September 1st at 8pm against Wake Forest at the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised on ESPN3.
