By JOLEEN FERRIS

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Salvation Army in Herkimer is offering assistance meeting immediate needs of flood victims.

Some, like Shari Loomis of Mohawk, went to seek assistance Tuesday wearing the only clothes they own that weren't destroyed by flooding.

"We take everything by a case by case basis and assist folks with food and assist them with possibly replacing their clothing," said Lt. John Wood.

Wood points out that the agency is unable to help with replacing major appliances, they can offer gift cards and vouchers for things like clothing, food and possibly gas.

Several people were at the Salvation Army at 431 North Prospect Street in Herkimer on Tuesday morning, filling out applications and hoping to leave with some assistance in hand.

Anyone seeking aid can go to the North Prospect Street office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. with proof of residence in the affected area, such as a bill or pay stub.
