Sanitation worker hit in car-pedestrian accident

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A sanitation worker was hit by a car while standing in the roadway next to his truck on Williams Road, according to New York State Police.

Law enforcement officials said that while a Bristols Trash and Recycling truck was stopped in the road to pick up recyclables at a residence, 45-year-old Randall Bristol was directing traffic around the truck.

Bristol was hit by an oncoming minivan driven by 33-year-old Benjamin Hughes, of Gouverneur, according to police, which was attempting to pass the truck.

Bristol was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for knee, head and back injuries. The Investigation is continuing by New York State Police.
