Scholastic distance runners earn a starting spot up front
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With just under two months to go before the Boilermaker Road Race, six top scholastic distance runners from the Mohawk Valley have been given the green light to start alongside elite runners from across the globe. Their training has also scored them a $1,000 scholarship check for college. Richard Hunt, the scholarship chairman for the Boilermaker 15K Road Race said, " We have have found that there is an absolute correlation between distance running for high school students and their academic performance. And the perseverance you have as a distance runner is transferred many times to your academic performance in the classroom." The scholarship recipients also get entry into this weekend's Hall of Fame Race as we quickly run up to the big race in July.
