TOWN OF NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The search continues for Herkimer County man missing along West Canada Creek

New York State Police officials say resources have been brought in from all over the region to search for the man who went missing while tubing down the West Canada Creek on Friday.

Lt. John Phelps with the State Police say 48 year old Roger C. Keeler of The Town of Newport began tubing around noon on Friday and when friends hadn't seen him for a while they reported him missing just before 6:00 Friday evening.

Phelps says the focus of the search since Friday evening has been along a section of the West Canada Creek where Keeler was last seen, which is not far from the business called Poland Sand and Gravel on Route 28..in Poland.

Phelps says that particular section of the creek is known to be one of the more dangerous,  "Based on my conservationist with the Herkimer County Sheriff and other rescue personnel involved  with rescue operations that this has been a particularly dangerous site or dangerous area with respect to tubing, rafting and individuals going missing."

The rescue resumed early Saturday morning with crews and equipment from all over the region,  "We've called in assets from across Troop D, Oneida and Herkimer Counties.  Bringing in the Oriskany Swift Water Rescue, Taberg Water Rescue and Water Rescue from Sylvan Beach as well."

Members of the State Police Dive Team has been in the water and a State Police helicopter have  also been searching the region from above.
