Sheriff's office investigating death of infant

(WKTV) - The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a newborn who was brought into Rome Memorial Hospital Emergency Room early Thursday.

According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, the boy was brought  by his mother to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday. The hospital notified the sheriff's office and an investigation into the cause of death has been opened. The sheriff's office is currently conducting interviews relating to the death of the infant.

An autopsy has been conducted by the Onondaga Medical Examiner's Office. The death is currently under investigation pending the autopsy results.
