William Sprague makes brief court appearance

By PAT BAILEY

ONEONTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneonta man charged with second degree murder, in the death of Sonya Ridge, made a brief court appearance Tuesday.

A felony hearing was supposed to take place Tuesday, in Oneonta city court, however both Sprague's attorney and the Otsego County District Attorney requested more time. The matter was adjourned until Tuesday November 23rd.

Over this past weekend a witness saw Sprague and a friend carrying an unresponsive Sonya Ridge into an Oneonta apartment. Oneonta police say after they interviewed both Sprague and his friend, it was Sprague who was charged with second degree murder.

According to Oneonta police chief, Joseph Redmond, Sonya Ridge had bruises and bleeding on her brain.

Because Sprague has been charged with a felony a lower court, the Oneonta city court in this case, can not set bail. Sprague will remain in the Otsego County Jail without bail.

Otsego County District Attorney, John Muehl, says if this case goes to a grand jury, the next step in the process, it won't be for another month to six weeks.
