UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Robert Thompson today admitted shooting and killing a man he was trying to rob after the man hit him with his crutch in response to Thompson's demands for money or drugs.

Robert Thompson today admitted shooting George Garrow once in the chest and once in the head. It happened in the one-legged man's Dudley Avenue home in Utica the night before Thanksgiving of last year. Thompson also pleaded guilty to an attempted robber charge.

In exchange for his plea, Thompson is expected to be sentenced to 25 years on the manslaughter charge and 15 years on the attempted robbery charge. Because the sentences will run concurrently and not consecutively, it amounts to 25 years in prison.

Thompson will be sentenced December 6th in Oneida County Court.
