Utica man charged with arson in Olbiston Apartment fire

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police investigators have charged a Utica man with arson following an investigation into the Olbiston Apartment fire a few weeks ago in Downtown Utica.

Utica Police have arrested Robert L. Getty, 36, and have charged him with second-degree arson, a felony.

Investigators say the investigation is still ongoing and ask that anyone with further information on the matter call the Utica Police Criminal Investigation Division at 315-223-3510.

The fire broke out in the early morning hours of September 17 at the Olbiston Apartment building, forcing 300 people who lived in the building out on to the streets and into temporary shelters set up by the American Red Cross. It was earlier this week that some of the tenants displaced by the fire were allowed to return home. Fire officials say the process to get every resident fully moved back in could take roughly two weeks.
