Utica man charged with murder following stabbing


WKTV - Utica police have arrested a man from Green Street in Utica after a man was stabbed to death on Howard Avenue on Friday evening.

Lawrence Abbott, 71, is charged with 2nd degree murder and 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to authorities, UPD officers responded to 1624 Howard Street for at stabbing at 7:45pm on Friday.

When they arrived, they found Paul Grimes, 60 years old of James Street, on the ground bleeding from a chest wound. Witnesses said the suspect was still inside the residence.Officers entered the building and after knocking on a door, a Abbott exited and was detained.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. Lawrence is expected to be arraigned at some point on Saturday.
