Todd Smith: "Jenise said she loved me then slit my throat"

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It's Day 4 in the trial of Jenise Haddad. On Friday the victim and Haddad's estranged husband in the ordeal, Todd Smith, took the stand for the first time.

Todd Smith said on the night of the incident, Haddad came to his parent's Westmoreland home, told him to lie down on a bed while she changed into another outfit.

Smith said the next thing he knew, she whispered she loved him and then put a hand over his mouth and slit his throat. Smith says he felt a burn and jumped up from the bed.

Smith is expected top spend much of Friday afternoon on the witness stand. The defense has been questioning him through the morning hours. He also said from the witness stand that he did not stab Haddad. When police arrived on the night of the incident, they found both of them with stab wounds.
