West Canada romps to victory over Mohawk

NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - West Canada Valley opened their 2011 season with an impressive 55-6 win at Koch Field over Mohawk Saturday.  The Indians rushed for 418 yards, with Pat Edwards having 169 of those yards, while Jack Minasi added 143.  Both had two touchdowns, while Minasi also had a receiving TD, from Ryan Moody.

After the Indians scored their first touchdown of the game to take a 7-0 lead, the Mohicans answered as QB Carson Murphy rushed for a 25 yard touchdown.

With a 7-6 lead, West Canada rolled from there, scoring another TD before the end of the first quarter, then three more in the second, to lead 34-6 at halftime.

The Indians will go to Westmoreland next Saturday, while Mohawk hosts Cooperstown on Friday.
