Westmoreland High band wins big at Sunday competition

(WKTV) - Westmoreland High School took the Governor's Cup in Sunday's New York State Field Band competition Sunday at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

At the competition, 52 bands from around the state competed in six categories based on school size. The highest scoring band in each category received the Governor's Cup. An estimated 10,000 fans turned out to see the 5,000 students who performed at the competition.

Westmoreland High School received a 78.60 score to take the cup in the Small School Three category. In the Small School One category, New Hartford received an 89.90 to place second behind Medina.

Rome Free Academy came in fifth place with a score of 79.20 in the Large School Three category.

Norwich High School competed int he Small School Two category and earned a score of 75.
