Wild Boar shot and killed by police in Utica after becoming aggressive
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was quite the unusual sight for residents and police officers, who came across a wild boar in the middle of a Utica roadway on Wednesday.
According to Utica Police, officers responding to the area of Bleecker Street around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving several calls that a wild boar was in the road and acting aggressive.
Officers say they located the animal, described as between 200-250 pounds and bigger than a German Shepherd, at Culver Ave and Broad Street when the animal became aggressive toward them.
The officers fired several rounds, killing the animal, who was then turned over to the Department of Environmental Conservation for investigation.
Police said they believe there was an additional wild boar in the area, but that animal was not located.
Federal officials say that there have been numerous reports of wild boars invading farms in Central New York, attacking livestock, killing family pets, chasing people and posing "devastating consequences" for the area.
If you should come across a wild board, officials warn you to stay away and call the police.
