Youth applauded for volunteering more than 560 hours

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - For the fourth year in a row youth volunteers have gone above and beyond the call of duty in Oneida County.

County Executive Anthony Picente is applauding the 926 youth volunteers who donated more than 560 hours last year.

Picente says the record breaking numbers are a result of the the Children's Care Initiative bringing agencies and people together.

Jonathan Velasco, 15, volunteered sixty hours last year and says he intends to surpass that number this year.

"I love participating because it makes me such a better person, in a way," Velasco said. "So, I just, I love giving back."

Picente says he expects involvement this year to surpass the last.
