Outpouring of support continues for fallen K-9

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - As the communities of the Mohawk Valley begin to heal from the shooting spree Wednesday, many are sharing their condolences for the K-9 who was killed by Myers.

A memorials and refelections page has been set up on the Officer Down Memorial Page.

The German Shepherd was named Ape, and only began on duty with the FBI in February.

Officials say that "Ape" will be returned home to Quantico, Virginia, where a memorial will be held and his name will be added to a memorial wall.

He was a Czech German Shepherd born on November 17, 2010.

Special Agent Ann Todd said, "Ape was doing what he was trained to do and made the ultimate sacrifice for his team. His actions were heroic and prevented his teammates from being seriously wounded or killed."
