Congressman Hanna declares 22nd Congressional a "Purple Heart District"

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - With Veteran's Day arriving on Monday, local veterans were honored with a district-wide distinction, Thursday.

Congressman Richard Hanna announced that the 22nd Congressional District will be named a "Purple Heart Congressional District," becoming the first of its kind in the nation.

Hanna, who made the announcement at the American Legion Post 1376 in New Hartford, said that the designation will forever memorialize the purple heart recipients in our area.

"I can only tell you that there are no words, there is nothing I can offer anyone here that in any ways compares to what you offer us," said Hanna to a group of local Vets. " That your commitment, your service that all of you displays to your friends, your family, and neighbors, shows what you're really made of.

"To that extent, you honor yourself more than anything I could or we could."

More than 58,000 veterans live in the 22nd Congressional District, receiving the special title.
