Monument arrives in New York Mills for Pearl Harbor veterans

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - As Veteran's Day approaches, a large package has arrived in New York Mills. It's a monument to pay tribute to the veterans who served during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

It's fitting because for a small community, New York Mills has a large number of people who have served our nation, specifically on that day!

The memorial is in honor of the 14 people from that community, one of whom was killed during the attack.

Veteran Stanley Stash Babiarz said, "It's history. December 7, 1941, a date that will live on..." he said. "It's very memorable. There are not too many places in the U.S. that had 14 people from a little town of 3,400 on that day."

The monument was erected Tuesday. Funding for it came from the state.
