Opening arguments presented in Whittemore trial

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Both the prosecution and defense have completed their opening arguments in the murder trial of Clayton Whittemore.

The Monroe County Jury will hear from the first witnesses on Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in a Rochester courtroom.

Whittemore is accused of killing his girlfriend, Alexandra Kogut, in her SUNY Brockport dorm room in 2012. The defense does not dispute Whittemore killed Kogut, but say he was acting under the influence of an extreme emotional disturbance.

Kogut was beaten to death with a curling iron. Whittemore told authorities he "snapped' the night Kogut was killed.

He faces 25 years to life if convicted.
