Whittemore trial delayed until May 12

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The trial for Clayton Whittemore has been delayed until May 12, according to WHEC-TV in Rochester.

The trial was initially set to begin at the end of March. The defense team has asked for more time to review the prosecution's psychiatric evaluation of Whittemore.

Whittemore is accused in the September 2012 death of his girlfriend, Alexandra Kogut, at her dorm at SUNY Brockport.

During Tuesday's pretrial hearing, Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Dooley said the defense was willing to plea to a manslaughter charge, but the DA's office feels it is a case of second-degree murder. Dooley said Whittemore's defense team may be looking at extreme emotional disturbance as a defense, WHEC-TV reports.
