North Korea launches rocket, defying world pressure

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea fired a rocket over Japan on Sunday, defying Washington, Tokyo and others who suspect the launch was cover for a test of its long-range missile technology. President Barack Obama said the move threatens the security of nations "near and far."

Malawi court rejects Madonna adoption request

LILONGWE, Malawi (AP) - A judge and a lawyer say Madonna's application to adopt a second child from Malawi has been rejected because of a requirement that prospective parents be resident in the country for 18 to 24 months.
