Case of Jack the sheltie dog adjourned for two weeks
There is a brief stay of execution for the local sheltie sentenced to death for biting its owner's two-year-old granddaughter's cheek, causing her to need four stitches.
A New Hartford Town Court Judge sentenced the dog to die back in the spring. But owner Natalie Beratta appealed to Oneida County Court.
On Friday, Judge Michael L. Dwyer adjourned the case until July 12, at which time he will hear possible alternatives from both sides, should the court choose to entertain an alternative to the New Hartford Town Court-imposed death sentence.
Beratta has already said she's found the dog a suitable home in a neighboring county in a place with no small children.
The courtroom crowd was smaller than many had expected Friday, presumably due to widespread local flooding.
