Firefighter rescues cat from waters of Sylvan Beach, foster home sought

SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. (WKTV) - A cat rescued from the waters at Sylvan Beach by the First Assistant Fire Chief is now in need of a foster home.

The small cat, nicknamed Nemo following the rescue, is estimated to have swam at least a half mile in more than five feet of water before Ricky Johnson, the First Assistant Chief of the Sylvan Beach Fire Department, spotted him and dove off a moving boat to save him.

The feline has been through a lot and was held for over a week by Village Veterinary Hospital, Canastota.

Nemo had no tags and no microchip implanted in him to indicate who is owner could be. Now the Peek and Boo Animal Rescue is looking to find an experienced foster family for Nemo until his forever home can be found.

If you have experience as a cat foster home and can help Nemo, you are asked to please contact the Peek and Boo Animal Rescue at (315) 481-9552.
