UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Teddy's in Rome reclaimed their title as Riggie Cup champion Saturday after winning the 2010 Riggiefest. This is the restaurant's fourth win in the competition for best Riggies.
Hundreds of people came out to the Utica Memorial Auditorium where they had the chance to sample the Utica-famous Chicken Riggies from several area restaurants. Following the taste test, the public was allowed to vote on who they thought has the best Riggies in the area.
The event is a fun way to raise money for a local organization, the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley.
Teddy's in Rome has swept the competition in recent years with three consecutive wins. They were added to the Riggie Hall of Fame and not allowed to appear on the ballot the last two years, until Saturday.
The Secret Garden in Utica was the defending champion. They came in second place but swept several of the other awards. The restaurant won the Best Service Award, The Best Decorated Table Award, the Kids' Pick Award and overall second place. Founder Dave Gibson said, "I guess it's not a 'secret' anymore."
Third place went to the Soda Fountain of Remsen who entered the competition for the first time. They donated back their cash award to the YWCA, the beneficiary of the contest.
Other participating restaurants were The Crystal Chandelier and Holland Farms.
