Nearly 130,000 households were without power late 29 October in areas near Washington and New York as a result of Hurricane Sandy, regional authorities and power company officials said. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said there were an estimated 47,000 households without power in and around the city, while in the Washington and Baltimore, Maryland, areas, power companies reported about 80,000 households blacked out.
