Smith Comes Back In Dramatic Fashion To Advance

Sports WKTV

Rome, N.Y. - It looked like Ilion would live to play another day, but Smith Post had other ideas. Down 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Smith scored four runs highlighted by an inside the park three run home run by Nate Mallinder to beat Ilion 5-4. The loss eliminates Ilion from the District V playoffs. Smith moves on to face Oneida County legion foe New Hartford. Game one of their best of seven series starts on Friday at 7pm.

Actually, we didn't forget or neglect to mention anything as we were never informed of that to begin with. But when a team only scores one run in the first eight innings of a game, it's fairly self-explanatory that it was shut down. And, of course, teams are not made up of just one player, and bullpens tend to play a big role in nine-inning games, so you just have to tip your cap to Smith for coming through when it needed to.

But what you forgot to mention was that Matt Gonyea completly shut down the Smith Post offense and the only reason they won was because he cramped up. They didnt have a chance if Gonyea stayed in the game but WKTV failed to let anyone know about that.
