HIgh School Football Coverage

By JASON POWLES & ANDREW DONOVAN

CENTRAL NEW YORK (WKTV) - It was quite an exciting night throughout our area with the season opener of local high school football games. Under the humidity of the late summer night, many teams got off to a spectacular start just days after the new school year began. Schools have been practicing for about a month all culminating to tonight's kickoff.

There were some upsets, some blowouts and some nail-biters. RFA and Whitesboro clashed in a shootout. Camden and New Hartford also ran up the score. Class C proved there is no real favorite, its anyones game. The lone Class D game showed the folks in Waterville its time to get back to smash mouth football!

It's not biased reporting when the majority of viewers and readers care about high school football more than any other sport. There are some people that don't care about any other high school sport.

Cross country is almost the same as football, just take away the muscle, pain, sense of accomplishment, oh yeah, and fans haha. Go to any game on a friday night. The stands are jammed with people young and old, thousands of dollars are being brought in. During a cross country meet there are more runners than fans. Football players run triple a 5k with full gear which weighs the same as a cross country runner. a runner to a practice, some tissues cause there will be tears

Its HS football, not pro. Does it merit headlines like this? Nope. What about other sports? I want to see a cross country wrap up. Those kids break a sweat and dont get the luxury of a break every play. I'd love to see a football team try and finish a 5k. You'd find out quick who the real athletes are, and it's NOT football players.
