CLINTON, N.Y. - Five Hamilton players scored in double figures en route to a 107-93 win in its season opener against the visiting College of Mount St. Vincent in the Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament in Scott Field House on Nov. 21.
The Continentals gave up almost 100 points to a Dolphin offense that boasted five double-digit scorers of its own, to keep the game tight.
"We played well offensively tonight, but not defensively," head coach Tobin Anderson said. "We saw some good things, but giving up a lot of points was not one of them."
Harlee Wood '09 led the Hamilton attack with 23 points. Two Continentals put together double-doubles in the win. Lance Wilson '11 finished with 13 points and 10 assists, and Patrick Sullivan '12 tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field, draining 31 field goals apiece. Hamilton (1-0) finished with a 36-24 advantage on the boards.
Hamilton came out strong for a 12-2 lead just under three minutes into the game. The Continentals also held a 10-point lead at 30-20, but the Dolphins (0-2) kept themselves within five points for the last 4:33 of the first half and went into the break down just 46-41.
Wood helped open the game up, scoring the Continentals' first eight points of the second half on two three-pointers and a jumper, to lead his team to a 13-3 run for a 17-point lead.
The Continentals led by as many as 23 in the shootout, and finished with 14 three-point goals.
Russ Rosenband '12 and Ephraim McDowell '12 came off the bench to pour in 17 and 10 points, respectively. Jon Ciriello '11 added nine points and Kyle Dumas '09 tallied eight.
Hamilton will face Bates College, the 80-63 winner over Wells College, in the championship game, tomorrow at 4 pm.
"It was our first game, so not having a scrimmage showed a bit tonight," Anderson said. "We have to step it up and I think we will. Bates is a very good team and we've got to play better defense tomorrow if we want to win."
