New Hartford's Zalewski leaving team to play junior hockey

By By BRIAN SANDLER

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford junior forward Mike Zalewski has confirmed he is leaving the team to play junior hockey in Syracuse next season.

Zalewski earned Section III and state Division II Player of the Year honors this season and is among the best high school talents ever to play in the greater Utica area.  He will play for the Syracuse Junior A's while continuing to attend New Hartford.

"I knew this was going to be my last (game)," Zalewski said after New Hartford won the state Division II championship Sunday at the Utica Aud.  "It's tough now to think about it.  But luckily I'll (still) be going to school in New Hartford so I'll still see all these guys in school.  It's tough to think about right now, but it's the route I've got to take."
