Sackets Harbor pounds Parkhurst in elimination game

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Parkhurst allowed 17 runs for the second straight game on Thursday and the result was a second straight loss, 17-0 to Sackets Harbor that eliminated Parkhurst from the District V American Legion Tournament at the DeLutis Field complex in Rome.

Sackets Harbor scored six runs in the third inning and nine in the sixth to put the mercy rule in play, ending the nine-inning game after seven innings.  Sackets Harbor sent 14 batters to the plate in the sixth, scoring the nine runs on eight hits, one error, one walk and one balk.

Brian Magovney led the charge with a 4-for-5 day including a home run and three RBIs while Jarrod Mattingly went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Will Van Houten was the beneficiary on the mound, allowing six hits and striking out 10 in a complete-game effort.

Sackets Harbor will next play the loser of Smith vs. Ilion Friday at 4:00, with the loser of that game being eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.

Parkhurst lost 17-12 to Love on Wednesday.
