BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The madness continues - Syracuse University's opening round game in the NCAA Tournament gets underway Friday night.
The SU fans that won't be watching on television will be in Buffalo watching the night unfold in person. The game at the HSBC arena in Buffalo is sold out, and hundreds from the Mohawk Valley had made the trip to see the Orange, doing so without a ticket.
That means they were scrambling Friday evening to find a reasonably-priced ticket for the SU game against Vermont - something that is easier said than done.
'Who needs and who has them' were two questions that scalpers outside the HSBC arena were asking to passerbys all day.
"The hottest ticket in town?" one scalper was asking outside the arena. "One to see SU play."
As the scalpers tried to pitch their wares outside the arena, some fans took relief knowing that they came prepared.
"The gentleman here with us bought ours," said SU fan Dennis Wentworth, referring to a fellow fan at the game with him. "We got them last year at face value. Some on the internet are going for five to eight hundred dollars."
However, the internet was the only way some people were going to see SU play in person.
SU Fan Jeff Atwood said he paid $73 for his ticket - face value.
"I was real lucky," he said.
Others, however, were not as lucky as Jeff. Many had to deal with scalpers in the hopes of getting better seats, but a majority said they found the deals from scalpers to be terrible.
"They wanted $100, plus our tickets," said one disgruntled fan. "That is awful. We paid $150. So, we would have been paying $250."
