Vancouver Sun: AHL team to return to Utica
By MIKE LEVIN

Although there has still no been no official word as of Thursday, several sources are saying there will be a press conference in Utica Friday at noon, announcing the return of the AHL.

Elliot Pap of the Vancouver Sun says the Canucks have been approved by the league's board of governors and will have full control of the team.

The team's previous affiliate had been the Chicago Wolves, who brought in many local players along with the Canucks' minor leaguers.

The Utica Memorial Auditorium previously was home to a Devils affilate, until they left in 1993.  According to News 1130 Sports in Vancouver, the Canucks deal with Utica may only be for one year.  In an article by Jason Brough on the Pro Hockey Talk section of NBCSports.com, several sources say the team may be waiting for the Aud's expected renovations before committing long term to Utica.
