VVS basketball coach Al Knapp to retire

By JASON POWLES

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - After 34 years on the bench, Hall of Fame coach Al Knapp is calling it a career. Knapp has told NEWSChannel 2 that he is retiring from coaching boys basketball at V-V-S.

Knapp is the Section III leader in boys basketball coaching victories with 539. He won five sectional titles, one at V-V-S and four at Brookfield along with a State Title in 1983.

"There's just nothing left in the tank", Knapp said on Tuesday night. "Maybe I'll write a book, maybe I'll teach a class. Never say never when it comes to coaching again, but the chances are slim."

Knapp said he would never coach against either V-V-S or Brookfield. He finished his coaching career with just two losing seasons in 34 years.
