Amateur boxing returns to Utica, helps out local vets
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Amateur boxing is back in Utica. After a three year break, the Utica Boxing Association has reformed.
The organization held a tournament Saturday inside the gym at Mohawk Valley Community College. Boxers ages 12-29 from around the state took part.
The theme of the event was to honor veteran's and highlight MVCC's Veteran Outreach Program.
MVCC's Dominick Nicotera said, "Military veterans have fought for us so MVCC and Utica Boxing Association came up with this concept that we should fight for our vets that are returning. It's returning the favor and thanking them for their service."
Before dismantling in 2009, the Utica Boxing Association served more than 5,000 kids over a 14 year span.
