Boeheim's Golf Classic returns to Turning Stone

By By MIKE LEVIN

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The third annual Jim Boeheim Golf Classic teed off Thursday from the Shenendoah course at the Turning Stone.  Proceeds from the tournament, presented by Metro Matress, will benefit the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation, which helps children all over Central New York.

"We're really excited about it. We think we can help a lot of kids by putting on this event and our gala that we hold. Turning Stone's great, they've given us great deals so we can maximize the amount of money and we've got a beautiful day. When you can play golf and be around some good people and you still can raise a lot of money for kids in this area, I don't think it gets any better than that," Coach Boeheim said just before the tournament began.

SU head football coach Doug Marrone also particpated, just days before training camp begins for the Orange.  "It's always great to be part of an event, especially with coach boeheim and metro mattress and the rest of the sponsors that are out here. What a great day we have out here today and it's for a good cause," Marrone said.

Also participating were former Orange stars Gerry McNamara and Chris Gedney, as well as Metro Mattress CEO David Shiroff, and other members of the SU Athletics family.

The Classic also included six challenges with Orange related prize packs.
