Durr officially signs with Iowa State

By MIKE LEVIN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A few months after announcing her intentions of going to Iowa State, 2013 Sports Express Girls Basketball Player of the Year Emily Durr made it official Wednesday, signing her letter of intent at Notre Dame High School.  Surrounded by her family, teammates and coaches, Durr was happy to get the big day done, so she can focus on the high school season.

"This day is different, because it's set in stone," said the four time Sports Express All-Star.  "Back when I committed verbally it's not a written agreement or anything, but today I can just let go and I'm really excited, I know I'm going to go there and focus on this year for high school.  It's definitely exciting."

The Lady Jugglers won a Section III Class B title last winter, but fell in the regionals to Oneonta.  The star of the Yellow Jackets, Mariah Ruff, a friend and AAU teammate of Durr, also signed her letter of intent Wednesday, with St. Bonaventure.  Ruff became the first Oneonta girls basketball player to earn a scholarship to a Division I school.

Notre Dame has most of their team intact from last year's section title team and opens a new season Tuesday, December 3rd, at home against TV-L rival New Hartford.

Durr has told NEWSChannel 2 that she plans to study diatetics while playing basketball at Iowa State.
