Generals eyeing another title

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The HCCC men's soccer team has a bad taste in their mouths, because of their loss at home last year to Suffolk in the NJCAA championship.  The Generals have won seven national titles and twenty-two straight Region III titles.

"They know that pain, I can still see it in my mind, sometimes I wake up with nightmares with the pain of watching the other team celebrate on our field in front of our fans," says head coach Pepe Aragon.  "We're hoping that we can be on the other end of that this year, playing in front of our family and friends and celebrating with them.  But we're not looking too far ahead.  That's our goal, but it's game by game."

The national championships will once again be returning to Wehrum Stadium this year, so HCCC has extra motivation to get there.

But first they'll have to get through the regular season and the Generals have a lot of new faces.  If those guys get comfortable in the HCCC system quickly, their depth will carry them a long way once again.

"Coach is doing a great job with that part, so we just follow by his orders and we play how we play to our game.  We should be ready no matter what," says sophomore midfieler Reco McLaren.

"Stay consistent and everything will just fall in our favor because we have a great team, great depth to the team," adds sophomore defender Devarr Pedlar.  "Just staying consistent will help this team out."

HCCC is 2-0 so far this season and will host Broome CC Tuesday afternoon at four.
