HCCC begins W.S. Thursday
HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Before they headed off to Minnesota for the NJCAA World Series, the HCCC softball team talked about their chances at winning it all. It's been fourteen years since the Lady Generals have made it this far, and they've never won a national title.
"There's some good quality softball," said head coach P.J. Anadio. "In order for any team to get to this point of the season and get to the World Series, you must be a great team that's well coached, a lot of teams have been there before. We're going to try and carry ourselves the same way."
"It's really exciting, I don't think we've ever gone any place like this before," added sophomore pitcher Mollee Putnam. "[It's been] since 1998 when Herkimer's gone to nationals. It's really exciting to all be together as a family and just go."
HCCC is seeded fifth and will meet #4 DuPage of Iliinois in the first round, Thursday morning at ten. Whether they win or lose, the Lady Generals would meet either #8 Dutchess or top seeded Gloucester Thursday afternoon at two.
"We're just going to go out there and play Herk softball, that's all we can do," said sophomore catcher and pitcher Cheyenne Bumpus. "We have great hitters one through nine, we have the best pitching staff, probably in the country. We have a really great defense, we're just going to go out there and play Herk softball."
"we've been always the type of team to keep our nervousness and anxiety on the downlow and just know that we know what we're doing," added freshman pitcher and infielder Jessica Patterelli we've been doing it, we can do it in our sleep. All the hours we've been practicing in the gym, we know exactly what we're doing. Play Herk softball and we know exactly what's going to happen.
