HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - HCCC is playing host to the second annual St. Francis De Sales CYO Basketball tournament this weekend, with games scheduled through Sunday. Over 30 teams are participating in over 50 games over the course of the four day event, with kids from grades three through eight competing.
Teams have come from all over the Mohawk Valley, from as far away as Canastota and Oneida, to participate.
The tournament was the idea of Chris Bray and Dave Kirkpatrick, whose teams would go to Rochester for the same type of event.
"One of the things we saw last year is that the kids became friends with each other," says Kirkpatrick. "Now when they play they're also friends afterwards, they know each other by first names."
"St. Francis de Sales parish in Herkimer, the school, you talk about program size on the smaller side of things, holding something that is fairly big and drawing people in," adds Bray. "So it's nice to do that under the St. Francis name."
