Hamilton cancels football season

HAMILTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - Hamilton High School will not have football this season. Head Coach Joe LePage tells NEWSChannel 2 that they just didn't have enough players to field a team when camp opened on Monday. After the first two sessions, LePage met with school officals and they decided to cancel the season.

The Emerald Knights only had 17 kids including two 8th graders and six 9th graders. "I feel bad for our guys. We tried to get some kids from Madison to come out, but only one came out. It's tough." LePage said. Hamilton was set to compete in the Class D Central alongside Cooperstown, NY Mills, Oriskany, Morrisville and Waterville.

Two other Class D schools, Rome Catholic and Richfield Springs, also dropped football this year. Rome Catholic has combined with Notre Dame this season to compete in the Class C East.
