Ilion Post tops Smith

By By MIKE LEVIN

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Ilion Post used a five run sixth inning to take the lead on Smith and never looked back, winning 9-3 in their District V matchup at DeLutis Field Wednesday.  Dan Colburn went the distance for the complete game victory.

Ilion trailed 2-1 in the third inning, when Dan Crim hit an RBI single scoring John Leclair to tie up the score at two.  Smith would take the lead again in the bottom of the fourth, when Tim Saccento beat out the throw on a grounder to third.  Jason Riggleman scored on the play to make it 3-2.

But Ilion took the lead in the sixth, sending ten batters to the plate.  Bill LeClair reached on an error and Jeff Eysaman was hit by a pitch.  With two men on base, Dylan Todd hit a shot up the middle, which brought LeClair to the plate.  John LeClair was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, bringing up Jamie Barr, who proceeded to hit a blooper into shallow right that dropped in for a hit, scoring Eysaman.  Dillon Hassett then brought Todd and John LeClair home with a double down the third base line.  After Crim walked, Joe Gantz hit a sacrifice fly to score Barr.

Ilion would add two more runs in the seventh and ninth to seal the win.  They advance in the winner's bracket, and will play Thursday at six.
