Lady Rams do it again to Poland

REMSEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Poland girls soccer team saw their perfect regular season record shattered Thursday, 6-1, at the hands of CSC Division IV rival Remsen.  The Lady Rams, now 10-1 on the season, beat the Lady Tornadoes, now 9-1 this year, three times last year, including in the Section III Class D final.

On Thursday, with both teams undefeated in league play, former NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Erin O'Connor got the scoring started less than six minutes in, stealing a pass and getting a shot past keeper Courtney Green.  Just 87 seconds later, however, Poland evened the score as Bri Goggin let loose a shot that hit the fingertips of Megan Will and rolled to the back of the net for the equalizer.

About midway through the first half, Remsen took the lead back thanks to O'Connor, who scored her second of three goals, all of which were set up by her twin sister Ashley, who picked up assists on all three goals.

The Lady Rams took control with about eleven minutes left in the half, as Haley Murray scored on a give and go with Joleen Marfone, who picked up an assist.

With a 3-1 lead at halftime, Remsen just kept the goals coming in the second half.  First, Erin knocked in another shot set up by Ashley.  Later, Ashley scored on a header set up by Murray.  Then with 34 seconds to go in the game, Blake Brand scored on a header set up by Erin.

Both keepers had busy games, as Will had 12 saves on the game, while Green had 11.

Remsen, who is now 6-0 in CSC DIV, will next host Dolgeville on Tuesday, then head to Holland Patent, to try and avenge their only loss of the season.

Poland, who falls to 4-1 in the league, will look for revenge when they host the Lady Rams on Monday, October 15th.  But before that the Lady Tornadoes will host DeRuyter in their tournament Saturday at four.  If they win, Poland would face the winner of HP and Frankfort-Schuyler, Sunday at four.
